What is Sofa Plywood?

Upholstery frames are plywood's hardest automotive-style duty: the panel is cut into arms, backs and seat decks, stapled through, flexed by daily use, and expected to last the life of the sofa without a squeak. Frame plywood is therefore judged on staple holding, flex behaviour and consistency more than on face looks.

Huanawood sofa plywood runs 9–18 mm on poplar or combi cores with MR (E1) glue, plus a bending grade produced with thinner plies and adjusted press parameters so the sheet can be laminated into curved arm and back moulds without delaminating.

Why buyers choose our Sofa Plywood

Staples hold, panels do not split

Frame grade controls core veneer orientation so staples bite without splitting the ply — the difference between a frame that creaks in year two and one that does not.

Bending grade for curved profiles

Curved arms and channel backs need a panel that forms without white-fracture lines. Our bending grade is pressed for exactly that.

Consistent thickness for CNC nesting

Frame parts are nested on CNC routers. A ±0.3 mm sheet feeds through without clamp adjustments mid-shift.

Light enough to ship assembled

Poplar-core frames keep sofa knock-down weight down, which directly lowers your freight per unit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get plywood that bends for curved sofa arms?
Yes — our bending grade is made for moulded curves. Tell us the minimum radius of your mould and we will confirm which thickness bends cleanly to it.
Which thickness is standard for sofa frames?
Most upholstery lines use 12 mm for backs and arms, 15 mm for seat platforms, and 9 mm for decorative curved parts.
Is the face important for frame plywood?
Functionally no, which is why most buyers take a utility face and one-side sanding. We can supply both-side sanded if parts stay exposed under fabric.
What glue is used — is it safe for indoor furniture?
MR (E1) as standard, meeting EN 717-1 indoor emission limits.
Do you supply cut-to-size frame parts?
We supply full sheets; cut-to-size frame kits are possible for large recurring orders — contact us with your cutting list.
